Brisbane's favourite sex-drugs-and-rock n' roll darlings LOVEJOY are blowing out the rockwebs and kickin' out the jams for a rare show at The Zoo. Last time you saw them, they blew the roof off a sold-out Troubadour, not to mention setting the highest ever bar record. Now, the Lovejoy planets are aligning once more and they're flying in Dan the mic slinger from the badlands of Tassie, exhuming their guitars from the cryo-chamber, and putting some spit and polish on the ol' rock & roll boots to make some more dirty, sexy noise.
They will be releasing their Cheekily entitled cd 'GREATEST HITS', recorded by the band's own guitarist Jeff Lovejoy. Mick Medew (Screaming Tribesmen) will be playing on the night, along with Miss Kylie Lovejoy's other favourite act, the 52 Pick Ups, and Love Hate Rebellion. Tix @ oztix.com.au or thezoo.com.au

The iconic car park behind Jamie's Espresso, adorned with some of Brisbane's favourite street artists, will be transformed into a concert stage like no other for one and all to enjoy some great local music!
Your party host for the day will be Sounds Like Brisbane, a project aimed at promoting and supporting the independent record labels that are the backbone of the music scene in Brisbane.
Royal Blood are an emerging two piece, having burst onto the scene only a few months ago playing their first live show with Bass Drum of Death. Since then, they have performed with Stonefield, Die!Die!Die! and many more.
The band have been getting some of the best reviews from any emerging band with Faster Louder saying "Royal Blood remind you very much of The White Stripes…on steroids, as song after song is absolutely perfect in every sense...As the band rip through their killer set I’m starting to think that this may be one of the best bands I have seen in quite some time and definitely some of the best new music out there."
Be there!

With Texas Tea (www.facebook.com/texasteamusic) and
The Phoncurves (www.thephoncurves.com)
Featuring:
Texas Tea - 8.30pm
Texas Tea are Kate Jacobson and Benjamin P. Dougherty; a two-piece (+ touring double bass and drummer) indie-country-soul act. The guys are one of Brisbane's most well-loved bands, having topped Triple Z's Hot 100 twice, released two huge national critically acclaimed albums and play with acts such as Ben Kweller, Iron and Wine and Cold War Kids. They have toured extensively throughout Australia and Europe - where they have a large following in France.
The guys have just finished their third album, Sad Summer Hits, which was produced and mixed with Magoo and recorded over six days at his Applewood studio. The album is their best work yet - with a retro sound reminiscent of 60s soul and country.
The album is released mid October, the guys are touring through late October and early November.
You can listen to the first two singles off the album here: texastea.bandcamp.com
The Phoncurves - 9.30pm
The Phoncurves are Abbie Roberts and Naomi Burrell, who met while studying together at uni. After forming a fast friendship, the girls quickly bonded over their shared musical passion and over time began to introduce their songs to each other. With striking frocks and gorgeous locks; their performances are fun, intimate and honest and their self-produced music is a gorgeous exploration of their friendship, doubts and love (both lost and found).
The duo blend modern day new-folk and indie with a subtle hint at the music of yesteryear; toeing the line between alternative folk, indie pop and alt-country. Their use of gorgeous vocal harmonies has become a characteristic inherent in their music with the act sure to become a staple on Australia’s music scene.
The EP was recorded, produced and mixed by the girls’ themselves, showing skill, depth and maturity well beyond their years and proving their worth as artists.
After playing with acts such as Passenger, Paper Kites,on the current Art Of Sleeping tour as well as Winter People, The Phoncurves are well on their way to infiltrating the Australian music scene. The Phoncurves’ self-produced, self-mixed and self-titled debut EP is due out in early October 2012 with a launch and celebration at X and Y on 5th October.
For a limited time, members of the public can stream the full Phoncurves EP HERE.
Now that it’s all over, head to Ric’s backyard for a table in the sun, a cold drink and some great tunes. Live music by Red Bull DJs, Royal Blood, Bleeding Knees Club and The Ottomans.

Starting as a Sole Trader (Geddit?) David Norris looked through all the Brisbane bands he loved. Wrote them down, and started to cross off the ones he either had no shot of managing, or didn't want to get involved with. SHELLFIN was the first one to get crossed off the list as they were, in his opinion "Too much of a shambles" to get involved with. About 2 weeks later he saw them perform and decided "Fuck it. These disorganised bunch of fucking stoners will be a great challenge."
Getting frustrated with the lack of heavy/stoner rock events, David joined forces with Michelle O'Rance (Tria Mera/4zZz Metal Up Your Accessway/FasterLouder) to start putting on some events which bridged the huge gap between rock and metal in the Brisbane community, as well as way to gain greater networking opportunities for their clients. Together, they co-managed an event at Brisbane's premier metal club Monstrothic, feating Brisbane's own DEAD END KINGS in the top billing. Plus, Daniel said he'd show Michelle was a meatspin was if we had them back.
PROWLER from Byron Bay are the new project from ex-Fort drummer, Deon Driver. Currently recording their first EP the band have a highly innovative and technically infused sound, they boast one mammoth ear splitting slab of groove metal. Delivering an explosion of sound with influences such as Pantera, Megadeth and Mastodon.
MICASA are an up-and-coming 3-piece progressive stoner rock band from Brisbane. After 12 months of fine tuning their sound, they have hit the ground running having opened the night for the premiere Soul Trader gig in April. They are continually impressing not only the fans but the bands they share the stage with. They are also expecting their first EP release shortly.
